I''ve played a few of the "free" mmorpgs out there and this one is by far the best that I've played. After only a week or so of playing I'm hooked. The graphics aren't good, but they aren't bad either. I'd call them average. Gameplay is your typical point and click for hunting, although your special skills mean a lot more at this point. I just got up to level 36 so it'll start getting more interesting because I just chose my faction (lawful or evil - I chose evil) which means I can PK now...and can be PK'd. Had my first attempt on my life last night T_T I won - twice(yayyyy!)! Let's see, what else can I tell you.
The graphics are 3D, I'll try to get some screenshots if you need em.
The gameplay reminds me a lot of Lineage 1 in that the leveling moves fairly quick til you get a little higher level (i.e. I was level 18 in 4 hours and then reached level 36 in 4 days). Something about the hunting makes it much more addictive then, say, Lineage 2.
Quest are extremely meaningful as they are the only way you'll ever afford the next level of equipment. That being said, they aren't tedious quest...anyone who knows me knows that I hate quests. Not in this game since they're so easy and pay well. If you decide to play, make sure you download the quest guide from www.martialheroes.com and make sure you do every quest as you go along. Not only do you get good money for completion, but you also get good exp for completion.
There seems to be a really large player base (a lot larger than I thought there'd be). This is one big reason the leveling is so much more enjoyable too...the quests seem to speed it up quite a bit.
GM's have mini-events daily, sometimes twice daily, which is typically a "buff event" where GM's buff players with uber buffs that last a few hours and help you to kill stuff a lot harder than you'd normally be able to kill.
There are 4 basic classes to choose from - Monk, Mage, Warrior, Assassin (I'm an assassin). When you choose a class and play it to level 12, you then take a quest to further breakdown the class. For example, with an assassin at level 12 I was able to decide if I wanted my character to be a dagger char, bow char, or gauntlet char. I chose bow so that's my main weapon now and all of the skills I learn can only be learned by bow using assassins.
You get character points upon every level to divy out between your base stats (the typical str, dex, agility etc etc)
You get separate skill points that you can use to learn new skills or make skills stronger.
I have no idea of the level cap but I've been reading things that place characters above level 80.
You get a new level of equipment usually every 4-5 levels. The equipment you can use is based on your level as well as base stats so you may see:
*Requirements*
Level 33
Dexterity 32
Vitality 23
Intelligence 21
There is weapon and armor enchanting but I haven't figured it out yet so I can't say much on it. I've had a few +1 or +2 weapons/armors drops thus far and they do offer a noticeable difference. (oh yeah, I get weapon/armor drops non-stop. So much that I fill up my inventory every 2-3 hunts and need to go back to town to sell stuff off).
There are HP pots and Mana pots - both are instant. The mana pots make it much easier to use skills religiously, making the skills a much bigger part of the game than some others I've played.
To sum it up...I've played probably 10-11 games since I quit Lineage 1 (R.I.P. T_T) and this one I've enjoyed the most thus far (excluding Lineage 2 which I mainly just enjoyed because of the people).
Now...someone come play. The client download took me 45 mins on cable and the updates after I installed took another 5-10 minutes.
