I thought so too, no doubt it will probably be big, but it will be for all the carebears. There is no PvP, and no plans to add PvP.

DDO is the game without PvP where you are forced to quest, and more so in groups at later levels, in order to advance?
Yes, DDO is quest based. Just like the Pen & Paper game. Unless you were lucky to find a good DM, you barely, rarely did solo adventures in D&D.
Yes, there is no PvP in DDO. Why should there be? Its a Dungeons & Dragons game.
Its just like playing D&D, except online w/other peps. You group, get quest and then head off to do it. XP comes at the end of the quest and since everything is "instanced" there is no need to worry about others getting into the way.
They even say that it is not based on the typical MMORPG, so dont think of it as EQ or Lineage. Its not that type of game.

fine and dandy, however for multiplayer D&D I rather play something without a subscription fee, where I even have some control over the game mechanics (like, say, NWN) - it's made like an MMO, devs put the game together, players pay fee, have chars stored on devs' servers and can only do what devs allowed, how devs allowed. Just because it's D&D doesn't justify to make another P2P online game which will - that's guaranteed - turn into tedium sooner or later.
I'm no big PvP junkie but the option to at least once in a while fight human opponents, makes a game a lot more interesting for many, not to mention people WILL hit whatever sort of cap DDO will have in place and get bored. If a game forces me to play a long a strict line of quests, chances are I won't enjoy it like the game where I can actually choose what I do to advance my character or what kind of adventures my PC goes on. I don't wanna flame DDO, it's just my opinion that this game is nowhere near hot

What fucken planet are you on? Lets see Drow in DnD were for the most part some sort of evil alignment... in this game they will be forced to be good? In DnD you never fought bad Humans? DnD should have PvP, the game itself is based around the ability to pretty much do what you want if it is within your ability.
I love D&D, and the most fun I ever had in any D&D game was killing other humans. <3 PvP servers on NWN. I'm not a huge PvPer but fighting intelligent players is just more fun. :P
NWN2 > DDO imo.

too bad these players are hard to find sometimes :P
The game itself wont bomb that is for sure. I am a total DnD nerd and I belive Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro fucking killed all the fun of DnD. They mainstreamed it so they could mass produce and make the books cheaper, but in the end was just filled with 80% crap.

Dragonlance ftw imo. :hf_luv:
I <3 D&D but WOTC sucks fat hairy ass. >.> D&DO is not even going to adhere to the core rules. Why not just call it generic fantasy-esque action MMORPG?

I played the stress test for a little while last night and today. Basically, the game is an Everquest 2 clone. It looks just like EQ2 and plays nearly exactly like it. I was actually really shocked at this.

I totally disagree, during the Stress Test I found it way more dynamic than EQ2 =/

The interesting experiment you can do is to go to nwn2 forums and search for DDO and similar terms :)
The other funny thing is to go to DDO forums and search for Eberron, FR, why Eberron, etc.

No offense but... Having played EQ2, and played the DDO Stress Test for a few days... I have to assume that you didn't play EQ2, or are just crazy. It's nothing like EQ2, I think that maybe the graphics system is the same, but the style of the characters and buildings isn't even the same. And playing like EQ2...? Er? You do quests maybe?
It's a kinda cool game, I like it because it's not like other MMO's (like EQ2) mainly because of the freedom of movement that's probably better than WoW, and the fact that combat is like real time (like you can block when an enemy swings, or dodge out of the way and it'll actually miss you, and you can click when you want to attack and you don't necessarily lock on to the mobs either, unless you want to when you're using like a bow if you don't want to aim it yourself, which you won't).
I mean, it's not amazing, and there are some inconveniances (like every game), but it's definitely good, I know I had some fun with it, and I am trying to get into closed beta. :ef_happy:

Umm, where did you get your information at? If you read about it, IT IS based of the core rules, very little was changed. IMO all mmorpgs are generic fantasy.

Well no monks, no druids, no crafting, no spells per day -- instead the Unearthed Arcana spell points system (which is NOT core 3.5) that reeks of the mana points system most games use. There are no "rounds" to speak of, no turn-based play which CAN be simulated in real-time (look at NWN). Instead, they had to go with a twitch-based system that is not D&D at ALL. Targeting mobs with a bow and arrow with a crosshair? Oh yea, that's d20 alright. /rolleyes This is just scratching the surface. If you read around I'm sure you'll find more.
Oh, and not all MMOs are generic fantasy. Rising Force Online ftw.
O_o did you play DDO yet? No offense, of course... but from what I'm seeing it's sounding more like you just heard a bunch of stuff that isn't even necessarily true... and you're putting things into the wrong context too...

I have real life friends that have been in closed beta for quite some time. :P
And I hate twitch target / strafe system, always have, always will. D&D is my first game love and they are butchering it.

Mmm I'd try actually playing it first, you may be suprised.
