Well, it must be a very, very slow newsday.
The NY Times put a story about buying "virtual currency" on its FRONT-PAGE. (Well, it's on the front page right now, it may get bumped off later.)
There isn't a whole lot in the article that most of us don't know already, but it's still an interesting read. More importantly, if it's on the front page of the NY Times it's going become more widely known.
Anyway, here's a link to the article: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/09/technology/09gaming.html?hp&ex=1134104400&en=cb84a49a8cf998d7&ei=5094&partner=homepage
And, of course, the homepage of the NYTimes website is http://www.nytimes.com

well after looking at the snow storm outside this morning .... knowing I have to trudge 90 minutes to work.... I think Wall Street should be virtual pfth...
In reality, to think that 12 years ago.... that lil compqac persario would turn into such a big money making world.... Its almost frightening... just one question guys.... what ever happened to real life.....
And FTR ... Im not fond of ebay bought items... dont get me wrong if I was rich as a bish its damned tempting....
Wonder how L2 would actually be played if all bought items were totaly banned?
PS Thanks Dog - will buy the Times on my way in and put that article in a frame on my wall....

it's a shame there isnt a better system to reward for pvp like unique items or something. with certain classes like gladiators being underpowered and mages overpowered it would be very difficult though. too bad ncsoft has no clue how to balance classes.
one thing i liked a lot more about WoW was the item drops.

if we go back to the days of diablo2 we can remember how they put the kabash on the "duped items" though buying of equipment was rampant on ebay.... I just never understood why people would pay money for something they could work for in game....
and yes I think "pure" chars should be given perks or "enhanced chars" be penalized even if the rate of failure hit/cast goes up noticably or stats do not enhance in the same percent as the pure chars

Im sorry but I do not understand the term "soul bound"
Im sorry but I do not understand the term "soul bound"
here's a description in regards to WoW soul bound items
The property of an item that prevents it from being traded to another character or sold.
Items usually become soulbound one of three ways:
Items given as quest rewards are usually soulbound.
Looting an item or accepting an item from a quest that is identified as "Bind on pickup". You should get a warning alert that this item will bind to you.
Equipping an item that is identified as "Bind on equip". You should get a warning alert that this item will bind to you. Most of the better equipable items bind on equip.
Soulbinding is a game mechanism to prevent too much twinking from occuring. Higher level characters cannot give their older equipment as hand-me-downs to their friends and guild mates.

Sounds like a cool idea to have special items bound to a toon.
I would like to see something like that implemented in the upcoming C4 release.

Its good for some items, but not all items. In EQ2 any weapon, armor or jewelry that has a magical property must be bound to your toon before use. This did not stop people from ebaying plantium but it did kill the resellers market.
Soul Bound should definitively be the the way for higher level weapons and items, f.x. from C and upwards. IMO, the weapons should be by Epic quests - requiring that you get help from your clan or even alliance, while armors or armor parts still could be by craft. To ensure that the Warsmiths still had something to strive for in way of weapons - maybe they should have been given enchanting skills to engrave/remove special abilities into a soul bound weapon?

Bethra,
Your signature is catchy, but I disagree with it. Everyone lies, the only difference is the motivation.

Motive.. Yes.
Let us take an example how enemies treat each other in Lineage. Constantly posting misleading fraps + screenshots and making other people look bad because of made up facts(also known as lies).
Steven King is a good writer but I wouldn't quote him due to his history with drugs. Many crazy ideas has come out of that mans head...
Most of them quite intelligent, but some... allmost according with Hkizzle's filosofy. :def_swt:

I knew that it was a quote. I just wanted to point out that I disagreed. I disagree with the sentiment of your second quote also. I would say keep your friends close and keep your enemies dead....hehe.
