Two awesome series that are commonly overlooked when compared to series such as Final Fantasy.
I personally loved these series when I was younger. Wild Arms I, Suikoden I & II and Breath of Fire I, II & III were amazing. All of the series started out back in the day as 2d sprite traditional RPGs, but now have 3d sequels etc. I find the old games far more fun than any of the new ones.
This thread is for people to discuss the the above series. Enjoy.
I'll go first...
I loved the first Wild Arms game. This and FF7 were the first RPGs I had for my Playstation. I wasnt too big on the 3d battles, but I loved the 2d Zelda look when you were exploring. The story in this game was fucking awesome and the characters were very well done for their time. lol, Jack (or Zack in Japan) owned with his talking mouse Hanpan.
Suikoden I and II... I loved these games. They had characters right up there with the FF series. The battle system was badass with the 2 rows of 3 characters making for a 6 man party was awesome and made you think up tactics. The large scale fights were very cool too, like a game of chess and the 1v1 special fights were cool as well. I think the best part of this series was its story and its characters. You could collect 108 characters in each game and if you saved your data from one game you could unlock things in the next. Haha, Flik is the man, I almost shit myself when he came back for II when we all thought he died in I. Haha, Flik laughs at your army. Viktor was awesome too.
Breath of Fire... wow, taking it back... One of the more simpler series I played growing up. I would have to say III was my favorite due to the characters and story. Even though each game is basically the same story with the same people, this one struck me as the most fun and enthralling. I liked the dragon system in this one the best and Rei was fucking awesome. Ryu + Rei = badass transforming ass raping mofos. IV was an ok game, but not as good as some of the others. The graphics were good, the story was ok, but it was just lacking... I did like having the good guy and bad guy being part of the same being, seperated though.
Anyways... discuss.
