It targets a younger audience with its cartoonish looks, L2 is more attuned for an older(not necessarily mature) audience.
Thats why it has more subscribers.

Nope, i don't see that many younger players ingame tbh.
The reason it's so successful is that (other then being the best mmorpg out there) it has the unique selling point of being casual gamers game. It's been promoted as a casual gamers game aswell as a game for regular mmorpg'ers. Thus gaining more players in Europe then the size of the European mmo market was thought to be.

Hmm guess 2m++ people are all quite young. Theres alot of adults in the world that play MMORPGs and it takes alot of patience to do WoW endgame. Of course first people said it would never beat L2, now they are giving excuses it did. Ah good times :).

Do you think all those subscribers of WoW are people who chose WoW over L2?
Or people who have never really played MMOs before. If you look at the subscribtion numbers L2 has never gone down, even with the release of WoW it continues to grow.
WoW has brought in a whole new customer base into the world of MMOs and as soon as they discover Lineage II... well, I don't think it's too hard of a decision which game to play in the long run.
It won't happen overnight. We of all people know how long a person can play an MMO. But when those WoW subscribers start getting bored and happens to come across a friend playing L2...
It's inevitable. It was genius for NCSoft to design L2 the way they did.

Doubt it. I know of entire guilds, hundreds of people that moved from L2 to play WoW, many who were level 60+ in L2.
A lot of these types of people came from games like Everquest which also had a pretty harsh grind (For it's time, in year 1 of Everquest it took many months for most to hit level 50 there, then more months to go from 50-60 at first expansion)...but the difference with Everquest is there was more variety of content to go with the grind, more things to do, etc.
That's why so many people that play games for the content get bored of L2 so quickly, and it's why probably 1/2 my WoW guild is like "L2? I tried that game and hated it."
Of course, that's not to try and claim one game is better than the other (Thanks to friends that play both, I still kinda play both), but more people play WoW because they think it's the better game than you claim. Even Koreans are becoming pretty fanatical about WoW these days (There was a couple in Korea that recently got arrested for playing WoW so long, they left their baby unattended and the baby died).
But when those WoW subscribers start getting bored and happens to come across a friend playing L2...
That's worked in reverse for quite a few friends of mine...people getting bored of L2, who I introduced to WoW. *shrug*

As opposed to doing one or two dungeons over and over and over and killing the same mobs over and over and over for months?
L2 players have little room to criticize other games for lack of content heh.

I can criticize WoW as much as I want to. WoWs content is the suck and you can't really defend it. It's copied elements of several MMOs out there and really had nothing new to offer. At least with Lineage 2 there is sever politics and genuinely novel concepts introduced by game desginers.

No politics on WoW = Boring.
Too much alliance people compared to Hord (70% >< 30%), and no way to make Alliance char go to the "dark side"= not fun on low populated server.
Too much server = Too low population = people get bored.

Glowing Weapons? WoW and EQ?
Zone in Text? WoW and EQ
None Stop Grinding? EQ
Experience Punishment? Most MMOs.
I could go on but I won't.

I hit 40+ and the only difference was kill an extra 1000 creeps with my C + B Grade Equipment.
