hmm i think more people play cs than L2. And CS is the game leading the esports revolution and i don't see many people being handed $100,000 checks per event playing Lineage II.

So I agree cs > L2.

Are you talking about this (http://www.thecpl.com/summer2005/?p=tny_cs16prize)? 100k my ass. At least, if i'm going to spend all day being pathetic playing a computer game I don't have to leave my house. These losers can enjoy their psuedo-athlete fame while it lasts, because it won't

well sure, CPL is definitely a big event in the esports world. But there are a couple other events goin on right about now.

WEG 2005 - $400,000+
ESWC 2005 - $120,000
The CPL is also currently doing their World Tour, distributing over $1,000,000 in prizes and started Turkey, moved on to Spain, and is now at Brazil.

Counterstrike is probably the better game to be a top player in right now.

I mean I don't know how much Ohhwwee has made playing Lineage II... but elemeNt?

over $150,000 from cs prize money alone lol

Overall it might reach $100k, but still not quite the $100k checks being handed out per event you were describing. Those prize pools are laughable to say the least. ESWC first place prize pool after taxes(27% here in the U.S., some Euro countries tax up to 50%) and after being split 5-7 ways is going to be about $4-5k dollars, thats not including the incurring expenses it takes to go to these things which is another 1-2k. That leaves 2-3k grossed per event per individual. If you win a half dozen of these you might be able to put a down payment on a car, and not all events pay as much as $40k an event.

Counterstrike is probably the better game to be a top player in right now.

I highly doubt Element has made even $50k. The only people who get paid well enough to make a living out of playing computer games Starcraft players, and the top ones make a pretty damn good living.

The person who is making the most money out of 'professional' counter strike is Ex-investment banker Angel Munoz. If he is offering 1million in cash prizes he probably has 2x that sitting in the bank and invested in stocks. This guy found an untouched niche market and he is dominating it, plus he has a business plan to boot.

lol wtf

first of all when i said, "you don't see L2 players being handed $100,000 checks at each event", it wasn't meant to be taken literally. It was an exaggeration to show how much a top Counterstrike player makes, in comparison, to a Lineage II player, $0?

It's amusing how you responded to this with your inane rambling and ridiculous facts and opinions. Are you jealous or something?

Lighten up these guys have found a way to travel the world all expenses paid while having a good time (and making money). Good for them =)

Even though I made up everything I said and you called me out on it you're jelous that you don't make money playing counter strike.

Yup.

Whether you were exagerating or not, it's still far from the truth. You're the one trying to make Counter Strike something it's not. I could give a rats ass if people have a good time and traveling the world playing in these tournaments, but they do not make the money you seem to think they do. Since when did making money for a game make it more fun?

I'd think it's easier for the average L2 player to make money than it is for most counter strike players. Anyone can sell adena, but how many people can place in the top 8 slots of the CPL?

im talking about making money with it
its 2 totally different games, and sure theres a handful people in the world that making enough money from cs to make a living out of it
but how would u set up a lineage tournament? its just not possible in a 100% fair way

and like someone else said, theres only a handful of people that can make enough of CS, but anyone can bot some chars and sell the adena for money
and $100,000 dollar checks per event my ass
u can get 15k max

oh and besides, u can go ask every top CS player and most of the time its more work then fun,

Why do you think Pacman was so popular?

Whoever said the prizes being around 4-5 is kinda crazy. I with taxes in and split 5 ways(5 man teams) that is 17k each. Most of them ARE sponsered so alot of the costs are taken care of by them.
