View Full Version : Charm
Since Hate in C5 will bring the target to you, will Charm be able to remove a players target of you since it's supposed to work exactly the opposite of Hate?
Personally I don't think it will, but NCSoft said they were redoing useless skills and making them better.

If that stuff worked, i got no idea why would they add bluff for daggers o.O, as we got vail, trick, etc

Charm needs a serious revamp.
As far as I recall, it's the only detaunt in the game. For some seriously retarded reason though, NCSoft made it magic based. How exactly they expected a dagger or an archer with piss poor M.Atk to lower their hate value with a magic skill is beyond me. Especially in light of the fact that Hate, which is a physical skill, has so much trouble maintaining hate except under certain conditions (mage party, certain physical mixes).
It'd be nice and all if they gave it a PvP purpose, but personally, I'd just settle for seeing the aggro management system get revamped.
I think Charm would be better as a self buff which resists "Hate" when used by tanks. Gives a chance for you to not switch target to the tank.
If Hate now works in PvP, Charm should as well.

Just for clarification to anyone that doesnt know yet, charm only reduces hate on a particular monster. Oh the land rate seems good enough, the power is to low, the skill is to slow, costs to much mp for what it does, and regardless of how much you use it, IT WILL NEVER COMPLETELY REMOVE HATE! Thats right. Hit a keltir on ti once. Charm it till you run out of mana. It will still attack. At best charm reduces the mobs hate lvl to you to the nearest thing to 0, without actually ever hitting 0.
However, it does lower it enough that social mobs will attack other players by defending there friends if you charm them enough. Very nice for archers that want to train low lvl bots. Just find a few mobs and a bot fighting one of there kind. Drag em to it and charm them till the bot draws aggro for attacking its mob. Most bots auto logged when attacked by to many mobs. Not to worry. Just drag the max so it doesnt log, then whenever it kills one drag another, rinse and repeat till it dies. Not the most effective/efficient way to train but decent enough if you dont have fake death, and it is a use for the skill. Now go out there and charm train some bots in orc & dwarf land and go get some brig and a tarbar for me :dwm_happy .
Don't think Charm works in PvP, because it only makes mobs less aggro, not lose their target. Switch would be funny in pvp though.

You know it would be pretty cool if in c5 they made charm work in pvp, like say make it so when you use charm, charmed player cant target you for like 3 - 5 seconds or something like that (cant make it to long or you could chain cast it). A bit different from how it works in pve I know but I think it would be an interesting skill that still follows the basic spirit of the skill.
Charm is NOT the only detaunt in the game. Bishops (and clerics) get peace as a skill which also lowers aggro. But these skills suck so much that no one ever wastes the MP on them.
In some PvP games these types of skills interrupt the target's current action. AOE detaunt / interrupt is pretty powerful. Not in L2 though. Heh.
NC say they are redoing lots of the under used skills, so hopefully some of these skills will become useful in C5.
The worst part about Charm is you can't even spam it to reduce Hate. It has a freaking 2 minute cooldown. It actually could be decent if it's cooldown was 5 seconds most for training bots only.

Switch should at least work in pvp imo @.@

Confusion and Trick, too! Although Trick is still usefull for training people/bots with group mobs. :P

IT WILL NEVER COMPLETELY REMOVE HATE!
That's by design. A detaunt, by it's very nature, is a tool only to lower your listing on the hate table. Not to reset your hate value to 0.
The latter is a job for Fake Death.
