I have been playing this game for 2 years now and I am going to tell you that ATI's suck playing lineage compared to Nvidia. I am not sure how the new ATI are but the old ones (9800 pro/X800) are not as good as Nvidia (5700 ultra/6800 ultra). But again I heard for game like Halo ATI is better.

Best card on the market IMO is the 7900 GTX by BFG.

Just so you know I have built/bought 6 systems in the last 2 years for my friend and me that play lineage. And this is how they rank.

Best
1. Dell XPS gen2 laptop with 6800 ultra
2. AMD 3200+/Nividia 6600 GT OC/1 gig of dual channel ram
3. AMD 3200+/Nvidia 5700 ultra/ 1 gig ram dual channel
4. Intel 2.4 prescott running at 3.6Ghz/5700 ultra/1 gig ram dual channel
5. AMD 3200+/ATI 9800 pro/ 1 gig dual channel
6. AMD 2600+/5700 ultra/ 1 gig ram (not dual channel)
7. Toshibe 2455-s305 laptop/ Nvidia 420go/512 ram
worst

Looking at these I have not made a PCI-e computer yet. So who knows but I still would stick with the nvidia. Because three AMD 3200+ I have made, the ATI 9800 was the worst. (cant even two box with it)

well the card is not really the problem, i just wanna know if the dvi thingie makes it worth to buy a tft monitor with dvi in or just stick to crt

The actual diffeences you will see switching to dvi doesn;t warrent the cost of upgradign your monitor IMHO.
