NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (AP) -- Scattered rain spread into the Gulf Coast states on Tuesday as Tropical Storm Cindy strengthened and headed toward land, and communities and oil companies started taking precautions. A second weather system was gaining tropical storm strength in the Caribbean and forecasters warned it could hit Florida later in the week.
I always wondered why people would want to live in a place where there are a lot of hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, ect.
Same reason other people live where they live.
Friends, family, habit... change is hard? Financial problems? The problems of that area to other people aren't really problems to you. Etc.
Besides Caribbean? Shit i'll go live on the beach... crystal clear waters... white sand... all year sunshine except for one month of hurricane weather, i'm down.

It obviously can't be that bad otherwise there would be a lot less people living there.
I live in a small town in Alberta (Canada) and we had a tornado last summer, but it only damaged one building. I was actually playing L2 when it happened.

The thing I've often wondered is why ppl that live in Florida, who get to deal with a lot of storms each year don't rebuild their houses in brick, but instead again in wood.
Is it fun to get your house blown away each year :?:

They're going to spend billions of dollars in the rebuilding of New Orleans, and in a few years it's going to get destroyed again.
I do feel sad for the people there, but when my gas prices go up because we're sending oil there I get a little pissed.
geah, gas rates are keellin me pockeet

The only reason gas prices are so high is because our shitty government knows hows fucking stupid most americans are, so they raise the gas prices because they know we will pay for it and not question why gas is so high and believe their BS that they throw out in why gas prices will raise.
We have plenty of fucking oil reserves to get oil from, NOT just the ones in the gulf, there is NO reason why gas should be over $1.90.

We don't build houses in wood you twat.
Also, nobodies homes in florida (like louisiana and the carolina's) gets totally knocked over.... the house is still standing yes, the roof might be severly damaged and thats probably the only thing you find... maybe shattered windows... I have never seen a house completely blown over here... and I live central east coast of florida... pretty much 75% of all hurricanes that come by go through here.

Yeah they're not always completely demolished, usually there's still a foundation.

Not as big as rampaging moose and bears.
