Ive played a lot of MMos in my time most of them had their good and their bad points, and as I play more of them I'm constantly finding myself finding more flaws and less good points. So! If you could design an mmo from all your previous experiences and ideas what would it have in it!
This would be mine,
The world would be huge, I mean not DnL huge but big enough so it takes a good month or two to explore it all fully. I'm thinking about double the size of l2, and the land would be varied and full. It would just have masses of space with nothing init, think as full as the Elder Scrolls oblivion world, lots of towns things to explore. Areas which you cant get too until you've done certain things or fought through a load of mobs, dynamic weather effects like rain snow ect. Also places where you can just sit an take a break an enjoy the scenery.
It would have many different classes you can play and have a system sorta like ff11 or l2 end game where you can change your class if you are not enjoying it. There would be many different types of classes the generic warrior mage, archer, tank, healer but many many more sub routes an extra routes you can take so you can really take the class where you want it to go. Also taking different class routes will open up new areas an quests specifcly for that like taking an dark evil class will allow you to enter the darker nastier areas of the world.
Character customization this ones a must Ive played too many mmos where everyone looks the same :dwm_mad: L2 is probably the worst one for this tho ive recently started playing cabal and tht looks like it might rival it. A system like the one in age of Conan thts coming up would be perfect you can edit nose size eye color ears, sorta like the tony hawks editors where you can edit all proportions.
Armour, Jewelry and Weapons, this ones also one of the annoying things ive found in some of the new mmos. I know some ppl don't mind everyone looking the same and are just init for pvp but I also play these games to look cool :of_happy: . RfO has been really good in this area it had lots of different weapons and armour through all lvls. Tho it also does start to look samey towards the final levels. FF11 was nice for this aswell alotta customization you could do make you stand out from the crowd. Also I would keep the classic, your gonna look shit when you start this game but the higher the level you get ure gonna look cool :dwf_luv: An armour and weapons they gota look good! have a look at the SuN online screenies and you see exactly how id like to see it. Jewelry an rings could also be seen aswel.
Races, I would like to see a large range with the classic cutey race (dwarve girlys L2, moon elves on archlord, tarus ff11 ectect) the beefy race (orcs, orgers ect) the generic humans, and about or 6 other random ones, elves, golems, rabits whatever realy just something tht stands out from another race.
Transport, again I would like to see many ways to get places. Air ships, boats, trains which you can pay for and they will take you along a selected path. These things will actuly be useful aswel, think of the airships of ff11 very useful to get to places and are used alot the boat from valkurm dunes also really useful. Think l2 whens the last time you used the ship?
Also mounts an mounted combat nothing beats a good horse with a giant pole stabbing people, I know its been done before in aoc and there trying to make it even better in archlord and many of the other games.
PvP, this ones iffy I dont have any answers for this just stuff I would like to see. No I can kill all class -necro* cough, tanks are actually tanks look at rf for a good example of that some of them can tank whole armies. Atm on cabal ther seems to be a good balance of clases and on rf its the same to an extent some classes are better at killing others an visa versa. The blood system from age of Conan looks cool id add tht too :dwm_happy .The combo system from cabal also adds a nice twist to combat + its different combat stances are nice and I would like to see something added like that. Id have a hp/pot system like rf too where battles last a good while and promote teamwork rather than 1 uber person 1 shooting everything under a certain level. + minimal risks and high rewards for pvp l2 is a good system but the xp loos and the threat of item losses puts a lot of people off pvp who simply cant afford the risk/time. I mean dieing should have some consequence but not as harsh.
Xp rates well this ones a tricky one id like to see them not as low as l2s are but not as high as WoW. I cant tell you exactly but if the game gets to the point where its 12hrs work for 1% thats where I dont want it to be at. Also penalties for dieing id like to see like cabal, penalties on health and stats for awhile not an xp loss that's gonna take you 10 hours to get back.
Economy and drop rates, exactly like rfo would be fine where its not hard to get items and level at the same time doesn't promote mass ebaying like some other games we know.
Random extras, takable castles like L2, set pvp events like rfos chipwars, raid bosses an instanced dungeons like WoW. Guild alliances, wars like l2 guild ranks like l2 is introducing. Random harder mobs that pop like ff11, wandering npcs that give quests help or hinder you. Play built citys, residences like DnL may eventaly have or like horizions did!
Well that's all I can think of for now there's a few other things I would add but getting tired!
P.S im not some research guy from another up an coming mmo btw lol :dwm_happy just bored and wondering if you could make your perfect mmo wat would it have init!
