enhancing performance

So i have this crap pc (p4 2,4ghz 256 mb ram, ati radeoon 9200). So you can allready guess l2 sux on it. I was wondering are there some tweaks that i can use to make my performance better.

I allready put everything on low, put on lower detail.
Does resolution make much difference,(i seem to perform less on 800x600 then on 1024x768)
Does playing windowed make a difference.

Tweaks to the pc itself?

someone have some usefull advice? doesnt need to be that great, just some small increases of performance are better then nothing.

(like fullscreen or windowed, what resolution,...)

The ram is really killing you big time.

Try killing useless processes in task manager and defrag your hard drive.

If you are more savvy then your best friend is start->run->msconfig ^_^
