Noobsauce, tbh
Clearly you haven't been following gaming news if you think the PS3's doing well so far.

[Taken from what I posted at another forum I go to]
PS3 is a powerful console and the PS2 was a marvel, nobody's debating that. It however, has a lot more potential to fail than it does to succeed:
Developing is one of the key factors. Developers are saying that developing for the 360 is half as difficult as for the PS3. What does this mean? A big decline in third party games. Third party developers like FROM Software have even dropped their planned line-up for the console* (http://www.gwn.com/news/story.php/id/10071/), and many other developers are actually steering away from the system* (http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/feature/?id=13291&rp=49) - and the developers who recieved a kit have been "Underwhelmed"* (http://www.realmmedia.com/next_gen_news/2006/07/sony_reveals_10_000_dev_kits_shipped_to_underwhelm ed_developers.html).
Sony announcing that it's actually losing money with the sale of each system [and with every other piece of bad news that has come around] their stocks have taken a beating - Wall Street has even advised to sell your Sony stocks immediately* (http://www.businessweek.com/investor/content/may2006/pi20060530_040131.htm?chan=tc&chan=technology_technology+index+page_tech+investi ng). What makes it worse is the fact that Sony only makes profit through the sale of their games [and accesories, as does MS, in this console war], third party developers abandoning the system* (http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/feature/?id=13291) is not a good thing. Ubisoft and even SquareEnix, the company that makes Final Fantasy games is finally in talks with Microsoft and Nintendo again, and having future releases of once Sony-exclusive games being cross-platform looks promising* (http://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=3&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cnet.com.au%2Fgames%2Fpcs%2F0 %2C39029655%2C40061748%2C00.htm&ei=9AfdRKPfLZac-gGY7YWJDg&sig2=sU-6rGI0pAcLhGTxNAqayw).
Already with the price set, it's obvious that there's going to be less amount of people buying it this time around. One thing people like to bring up is that it also works as a blu-ray player: Fact, the blu-ray actually hasn't been doing as well as the HD DVD* (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060801-7399.html) - and neither have any other of Sony's media formats [Sony used to put movies on mini disc sticks [failed], and retailers are now dropping UMD movies* (http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/psp/rumor-target-pulling-umds-186720.php)]. Movies that will come out in blu-ray will be the one's coming out by Sony, and for profits they'll have to offer a DVD option as well [and perhaps HD-DVD]. Even Toshiba - a company that has been with Sony everytime they've released a new format has not shown it's support this time around and decided to go with HD-DVD* (http://www.toptechnews.com/story.xhtml?story_title=Toshiba_To_Deliver_World_s _First_HD_DVD_Recorder&story_id=01200189JAN0).
Besides that, the still behemothly priced cheapest version of the PS3 requires wired controllers* (http://www.gamesradar.com/gb/ps3/game/news/article.jsp?articleId=20060513133719562032§ionId=1006&releaseId=20060314132311609002), when even the Wii does not. Sony just doesn't get it as well as their competitors when it comes to backwards compatability - big example is having to purchase an adapter to use your old PS/2 memory cards* (http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/04/ps2-memory-cards-need-adaptor-for-ps3/), and if you bought a high-end one, you've really got the short end of this deal. The PS3 has been terrible news after terrible news, and anybody who follows tech/gaming news as religiously as I do knows this.
Myself, I prefer the Wii. The Wii has gotten so much third party support, it's so innovative and it's already become a fan favourite of techies on largely populated social news websites I go to. For anybody who thinks it: I'm not at all a Nintendo fanboy. In fact, if you were here about upto two months ago, I was shitting all over 3k for supporting the [what was then] Nintendo Revolution. As the news rolled in, I became more and more impressed.
The Wii has 27 games developed for Day 1 launch* (http://www.nwizard.com/web/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=245&Itemid=2) [the highest in console history] - to compare the 360 and PS3 had/have 18 and 15. A big reason the Wii has so much third party support this time around is the fact that their devkits are a ton cheaper at only $1,700* (http://wii.veteransoutreach.org/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=94&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=), and that developing for the Wii costs a quarter/half compared to the 360/PS3* (http://www.n-sider.com/newsview.php?type=story&storyid=2337).
Interestingly enough, both Sony and Microsoft have used Wii against each other by saying "People will buy two consoles this time around, ours and the Wii"* (http://www.thewiire.com/news/312/1/Sony_Executive_Recommends_Wii_As_Second_Console). A big chunk of Sony's market, Japan is even favouring the Wii, 88% surveyed saying that the PS3 is just too expensive. 69% of those surveyed also said they'd be buying a Wii (while 22% said PS3, and 7% the 360)* (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060530-6939.html).
The Wii's really got this generation by the balls and it's not even been launched yet. Nintendo redeemed itself with the DS (selling 21 million units, just 3mill under the XBOX in it's entirety), and they're cleverly using it as a stepping stone for the Wii with the console/handheld interactivity.
Sony announcing that it's actually losing money with the sale of each system [and with every other piece of bad news that has come around] their stocks have taken a beating - Wall Street has even advised to sell your Sony stocks
Losing money is not uncommon in the first year(s) of a next generation console.

Never said it wasn't - Pointed out that because of it they're gonna need a good selection of games for profit, and having third party developers drop them isn't good for business. The list of cancelled games so far:
Killing Day
Thesis
Elveon
Endless Saga
Condemned: Criminal Origins
Smackdown 07
Splinter Cell: Double Agent
Fight Night Round 3
Dark RPG [FROM Software]
Black Blade [FROM Software]
Alan Black
Keep in mind, it's not the norm for this many games to be cancelled pre-release.
I just wanted to point that out because that part made it sound pretty bad, and the fact that you made it bold :P But I definitely agree that the canceled games is going to hurt them a lot. It seems they haven't done much right to help the ps3 >< Its just more bad news every week.
This is the shittiest analogy I've ever seen for any spoof.
Nintendo markets their games to freaking KIDS. It doesn't even have Grand Theft Auto. Games for PS2 are more adult-oriented.
What a stupid fanboi shitty ad for the "Weee" which stands for tiny penis.

Nintendo-made games are family fun, which is pretty much expected of any of the console companies. Doesn't mean that all third-party games are the same.
Plus, what's that got to do with the analogy? The Wii's a great piece of hardware, no doubt.

I've been a console nut all my life dating back to the ol' 2600. Sony has NEVER been a good game company....ever. Their success has been entirely on exclusive licensing and media hype. I think they lost all hype credibility from the PS2 (seriously that thing was a piece of junk hardware-wise for the technology available at the time). The hype on PS2 was so ridiculous I laugh when I think back to what magazines and such published on it. Thats one reason why I don't get my hopes up on the Wii, but I must admit it looks like its going to be awesome for gaming nuts like myself. Hell thinking back to my first PlaystationS and Playstation 2'S (Both as in plural, more than one because they broke often) I begin to realize I HATE Sony. The playstations (PS1 and PS2) both had some great EXCLUSIVE games but when you looked at cross platform games the sony versions were often less quality comparing some Saturn games to PS1 games and PS2 games to Dreamcast games. Don't be fooled into thinking Sony is a great game company because they AREN'T, their success has been heavily influenced by exclusive titles which are slipping through Sony's hands as of late. Sony is screwed now with fair competition. I see Sony as a game company dying with the PS3 and all I can say is, "good riddance."

well actually their own studios have made a few really good first party titles, but with the other part I agree, they're more PR and hype than anything else - their PS2 "supercomputer" couldn't even match the image quality of the older, technically inferior Dreamcast (RIP)
Nintendo, on the other hand, seems to concentrate on acually creating a compelling gaming experience and doesn't just hype tech to take the same old games and upgrade them with "next-gen" and "HD" graphics (WTF, on the PC we're doing "HD" for years, even in "1200p"...)

I have come to a really similar conclusion, Taraza.
I have hopes for the Wii. Just hope nintendo get rid of this "for Kids" img it has up there on NA... because thats just not true. You do not need to be killing ppl to make a game fun, you know..

That's just the type of mentality we need.. "it doesnt have Grand Theft Auto omg oh nooooes+". Yea, get over the kid shit... cause Nintendo knows how to make good games with good game play. Smash Bro's Melee for the GC was prob the best fighting game I have ever played from any console.
