Ford was a good guy who would have made a good president under normal circumstances. He was a liberal republican, kinda like the California Governator, but probably more liberal. It's funny I remember the 76 election, and as always people were arguing about which one to vote for. (yes I'm old) Today, and the past three elections, there hasn't been anyone as presidential as Jimmy Carter or Gerald Ford; It's weird to look back and say both were better than what's' been running.

we need a president like reagen. Ford was a good president if hadnt have had the impeachment(of nixion) and the vietnam war(which limited his abilty to intervene miltary wise i think he would have ran the country very well.

carter ruined the economy. Intrest rates toped 10% for the first time since the civil war.

Reagan was a great pres he put the american econmy back on track and wasnt afraid to use force when needed.

He finished his 2 terms in office with the highest approval rating since Eisenhower.


And to top it all off, some people outside the borders of the US actually liked the guy.

edit: oh, as far as economics are concerned, presidents have very little to do with economic growth or downfall. aside from (suggesting) raising or lowering taxes, or tax breaks, etc. they cant really do anything to affect that.

To comment on the thread title which implied that he was senseless at 93; that is incorrect. You should listen to that interview he gave a journalist this year. The conditions of the interview was that it was only to be released after his death. He was very sound at 93, he even gave his judgment against the war in Iraq, saying that Bush was too focused on weapons of mass destruction and allowed his judgment to be driven by that one aspect. And this was coming from a 93 year old battle seasoned, and decorated, veteran of WW2, who ended the last American nightmare called Vietnam.

His presidency was just a part time job that marked him, but he wasn't ever senseless. He was/is an American statesmen worthy of honor.
