I play with about 3 clients open all the time. My new place has wireless. Has anyone had any experience with wireless and gaming? I just want to make sure before i go buy a card that im not gonna get Disco'd every 5 minutes.

Wireless is crap for apps that need dedicated, reliable connectivity.
Why?
You can spend literally 300$ on the router, antennas, amplifiers etc.. all just to get the same connection quality as a 5$ cable?
Your connection can drop out randomly due to any of these factors:
Oldschool Microwaves.
People with funky ass car radios outside.
People with other high frequency (also overclocked) wireless equipment near you.
Satellite televisions.
etc etc..
Wireless in one word: UNRELIABLE.

Let me start by saying that (at first) my wireless was problematic.
After a little research I made the following small changes:
Switched my cordless telephones around the house from 2.4GHz phones to 5.6GHz phones, since my Motorola Wireless Cable Router transmits at 2.4GHz.
Made sure the Broadcast Channel of my Router was unlike any of my neighbor's Broadcast Channels. I think I'm using Channel 6 now.
Instead of letting the Windows Wireless Zero Configuration manage my wireless connections, I allowed the Intel PROSet Wireless Software manage it, which allows me to 'Exclude' (completely Ignore) other nearby Access Points.
The DHCP server in my Motorola Router has a Static IP assigned to my notebook using my MAC Address as the Unique Identifier.
I also put that static IP into the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) of the Router.
Since then I have ZERO lag, and 100% uptime. Hope this helps someone.

I've put 1000 hours into wireless L2 playing, with a good wireless router (belkin) you can't go wrong. When it comes to security with certain routers if u secure them you'll get kicked off every 5 mins. But if you play on an unsecured router and register only your computers to the connection, others can't steal ur kilos. Again there was only one router I dealt with in which it gave out every 5 mins. Wireless is great.
Also, I have tried to hook up 2 routers at the same loc, it doesn't work, : (, or I just wasn't computer savvy enough to work the frequencies together flawlessly.
When secured connection is slower, when unsecured connection is better. Maybe in another 10 years they will have all that WKIP shit figured out.

Ok dunno what this guy was talkin about but..ive run many many hours of wireless and l2 and encrypted secure network. I have never gotten dc'ed because of my wireless being stupid and its like a 100$ router. If your computer is far from the router get a mimo router or draft n...i personally like linksys/dlink and netgear. All good brands.

yeah, if theres too many ppl with wireless shit in the same area it can get fucked up, the same thing is actually possible with cell phones but thats much less likley cuz its rare to have enough ppl on cells in proximity to overload the freqs.

I play on a wireless network, and I maybe lose connection once a week for about 5 seconds.

Running L2 on 2 computers, both wireless for some months. No problems so far. One 108Mbps other one 54Mbps. D-link router.
If you buy good hardware and you're not living in a bunker, then you won't have any problems!
