Does anyone know of a utilitiy I could possibly download off the net, and burn to a CD and have another computer Boot off that CD so I can transfer files off the dead PC before formatting it? It has XP installed on it but its fucked beyond repair and I need to salvage business files from it.
I know there has to be a utility that you can boot from that'll allow you to access a HD still and transfer it across a network. Or even burn to CD.
Anyone know?

linux knoppix is the answer.
it is a version of linux you can run from a cd *like i do when anything goes wrong at all*
has a million and one programs already on it such as file sharing, networking, usb support, sound support, dvd/cd burning etc
it really is great

Where can I get this?
Will it allow me to connect to another XP machine and transfer files? or will it allow me to burn from that local machine?

That utility didn't work, does anyone else have a similar one?
knoppix isnt a utility, it's a whole operating system on a disk.
and if it doesnt work, you're retarded.

Forgive me for saying it was a utility, I realize its a full OS based of Linux.
But it won't boot on that laptop that I was trying to use it on, it doesn't support the DVD-r thats in it, it worked on this laptop, but this isn't the one I need it to work on.
