Anyone good with modeling? Specifically i am making a subwoofer and am having trouble maping a texture to the inner part, probably due to the method i used to make it (bevel then boolean subtract half a sphere)

Thanks

I might be thinking of another program (have used lots over time, but not many recently), but is the mesh for the model closed? I know in one of the programs you have to close the mesh completely before you can put a meterial or a texture on it.

This probably isnt the answer cause this is usually a simple step that is required on many things and I doubt you over looked this.

If I still had 3dmax Id ask for the file, but that was a couple years ago. Sorry, no real answer off the top of my head.

It technically shouldn't matter that you booleaned a sphere it should still texture like a sphere. Now i might have misunderstood your problem but assuming you have a decent understanding of the program, my suggestions would be:

1. fix the normal orientations, max is a big baby about normals.
2. 2 sided texture, again max is a big baby about normals.
3. and unwrap the UVs and apply the texture to the projection. It should give you more control over where your texture goes.

Of course my real recommendation would be to stay away from booleans altogether, they always make things twitchy.

EUGH! i applyed the unwrap uv modifyer and played with that for a while but in the end it jsut wouldn't line up as i wanted so i just threw a wooden texture on the box and made the actual speaker a black/plastic texture.

second noob question ~ i have attatched two obects to make an electric toothbrush and can't forthe life of me clean up the attachment. i just want to merge a few vertexes ><

EDIT: was weld >.> my bad

I believe the best way to use the UV unwrap imho is to project faces that are facing the same side separately. i.e Select all the polygon faces facing the front view, project them, repeat for left and right etc, then play with them in the UV editor to get them the way you want. I hope that kinda helps, UVs are kind of intimidating unless you break them down just how you want them.

I gotta ask tho, why is your sub made out of wood?
And if you don't mind i'd like to check out the final results.

dam homie, thx for that good stuff, I see where you were going with that texture now hehe.

Is that first one a heat sink? Again that's really good stuff. I've been thinking about modeling my gladiator. If i ever get around to it, i'll send u the pics.

The first one is the Zalman 9700 camputer fan.

as for modeling your glad, you can extract the models and textures and open them in 3ds max. at the moment i'm not sure about the textureing but i can get the queen cat into 3ds max, but can't texture it. but then if i open it in a different program called freja the model comes in two parts and i can apply a texture to one half at a time >< its frustrating lol

and check this out ~ if you need any progs let me know.
