Anyone Able to play L2 on quad core( q6600). Getting constant Bsod errors npkcrypt.sys when I load up l2. Had no problems with my e6600.
Operating system: Windows Xp home
CPU Q6600
memory: 4gigs (2x2gigs) Patriot Extreme
Motherboard: DFI 680i LT
HD: WD RAptor drives 150gigs
3dcard: 8800GTS 320mb with latest nvidia drivers
Powersupply Thermaltake toughpower 1000w

I know it isn't the 8800GTS or the Memory because I was playing it on my e6600 with no problems at all, using the same drivers as well.

Do you lag?

No lag, but when I log in I get a blue screen crash with npkcrypt.sys error and my computer restarts.

npkcrypt is gameguard file.

you try fresh install?
full check?

are you running with admin rights?

got a oced e6600

and BSODs are normally linked to the ram. Now that its l2 then it might be ncsoft not supporting it like xp64bit and vista which took em 1 cron to fix.

looked for the file on the net and it seems like a gameguard protection file. Knowing how it attacks stuff it doesnt know then a quad core might get it to attack it and crash the whole thing.

solution - run vista, disable uac, it disables gg. but u wont see any benefit whatsoever running l2 with quadcore, its single thread

Something new.
I just received an answer from NCSoft technichal support.
They said there is a compatibility problem between Quad Core processors and Game Guard and ask me to try a temporary workaround until apatch is released.
unfortunately the workaround is not working for me and i'm waiting for a new answer.
Really with the workaround in place the system stops to a blue screen before the login screen.

The workaround if you want to try is as follows:

1. Start Lineage][ and while the updater is up press Ctrl-Alt-Del
2. Click Task Manager
3. Select the Processes tab
4. Find LineageII.exe in the list and Right-Click on it
5. Click Set Affinity
6. Uncheck all CPUs except for CPU0 cpu01
7. Click OK
8. Close the Task Manager
9. Click Start on the Updater

lol thats the worst work around ever.... its pretty simpel. Ncsoft sucks at anything...making support for stuff is one of em. I got banned at their forum when they had problems with dualcore/winxp 64bit and it took em a freaking cronicle before they did something... glad im not playing this piece of junk anymore.

I am pretty sure that L2 only uses one core

Go Google the differences between all the versions why spend extra money for stupid shit your NEVER going to use like bitlocker and other random usless programs for a home gaming pc.

As for the performance thing, it will balance the load over the 4 cores, even thou its only written for 1 core, it's still spread over the 4 cores, so he will indeed see a performance boost

Oh come now.. There are alot of people who already have cracked versions of Vista Ultimate that they got for free. BitTorrent's and such, Hell, if you torrent Windows XP, Alot of people already have them up.

Personally, If you have a great rig, why not get the best, And if you want those features Ultimate works. Also if your running your gaming machine on a local domain as I do, Ultimate works for you, Home prem doesn't offer that feature.

But, your call. XPPRO|V.Home Prem|V.Ultimate
