I'm probably naive but i actually believe that we Americans learn from our mistakes, even if the process seems slow at times. there are representatives, lawmakers, and presidents growing up right now and they are watching and listening and they will be better leaders by learning from everyone's mistakes, and they are inventorying what works. Maybe they could even learn something good from bush, like it's better to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission. Even the american public as a whole learns to adapt new attitudes from bad situations. look at the vietnam war. it was hugely unpopular and when the troops got home they were treated like shit or even spit on or worse. at least now, even tho this new war has become a joke and equally unpopular, we almost always treat our soldiers with respect and as heroes because we learned from vietnam that we shouldn't hate the playa, hate the game :) and i'm sure in the future, people in general will learn not to let fear guide them in making/allowing unconstitutional bullshit to be passed (i'm sure it will take a few tries to learn that one tho). Besides, america has a long history of passing retarded laws, then fixing it later. i'm sure i don't need to illustrate that point

it's always gonna be a touchy subject when you talk about news reporting and it's related accuracy/spin/agenda and whether or not they should be reporting certain things and ignoring others. but there a few facts that we just have to accept.

CNN, Fox, and NBC are all corporate news outlets that americans rely on for information about important world events (i cant speak for euros/others becuz i dont live there and have no clue how they get their news). We have to trust most of what they tell us because 300million people aren't going to fly around the world 50 times a day to verify a story, so u kinda have to accept what someone else tells you about something. Now we all know that the main goal of an NBC, a CNN, or a Fox is to make money for it's shareholders, and to get ppl to watch ur broadcast in a competitive marketplace you do have to spice it up a bit by adding provocative newscasters who do more than read in monotone off a teleprompter, so no matter what happens ever, there will always be varying degrees of sensationalism and spin, that will never ever change.

unless u want to get a news organisation that is not trying to make a profit and just promote truth, say one that's run by a govt agency, and we all know how much ppl think they govt is reliable and spin-free, then a corporate news source is always gonna be around and what we're stuck with for lack of options. besides, 2 people can see the exact same event from the exact same angle and still have 2 different versions of truth, truth is very much a point of view.

the american government consists of elected officials who are given their jobs by voters. and how do voters get their info? usually Fox, CNN, or NBC. so since a corporate news agency is basically in charge of who gets to be your boss, they are very important and thus a necessary evil. Soldiers are still a public servant don't forget. so when u say that there should be more separation between media and military, well ideally for u the news guys would disappear, but it'll never happen
