I whant to buy a new pc in araund 1800$

But my main concern is that some ppl say that lineage2 doesnt suport quad cores , meening l2 doesnt run on them .And other games doesnt run on quad cores as well . Is that true ?

Here is my pc that i might buy . Since im buying it for a long time i would prefer quad core , so pc lasts longer , w/o upgrading it ..

Cpu: INTEL CORE 2 QUAD q6600 2.4 s775

mb ASUS s775 NF680i DDR2 2XPCI-EX16 2XGBLAN
Ram 4x kingstone 1gb 800MHZ DDR2 NON-ECC CL5DIMM
Video CLUB 3D GF 8800GTX PCIE 768m 384BIT DDR3
DVD/RW LIT DVDRW 18x BLACK SATA
Baroshanas blox
hdd sMG t166 400gb SATA2 7200rpm 16mb
Case

What do u think abaut this setup ?

All games can run on quad cores fine, most just don't utilize all four cores.

Correct it is the same as running dual cpu's but most apps do not see both cpu's but if they did I would have run Lineage2 off my dual AMD MP200,4 gig ddr,XP Corp Pro,256 mb GForce550 server long ago.

I did though until I built my second system for my buffer account actually run Lineage2 off of a older than dirt itself Dell Dual P3/1 GIG slot 1 server,XP Corp Pro with 512 mb of PC800(rambus ram) and a 256 MB GForce 5500 vid card and it actually ran decently.

Nix the 4 gigs of ram...unless ur getting vista pro x64 which i dont even think it can see that much ram...ud buy 4 gigs and xp/vista 32 would see between 2.8-3.25 depending on other system specs...

if theres an option for 3 gigs, ( 2 x1 gig, 2 x512 mb) go for it, if not 2 gigs is great for l2 as well...

then

buy it

play l2

be happy.

little OT: any rumour on the price of the future Q9450 ?

Back on topic: what's your monitor gustavs? If you haven't got a 22"+ monitor you should definitely consider a 8800 GT: way cheaper and almost with same performance. The 384 bit bus of the 8800GTX is great for high res monitor.

As already stated, you don't need 4 gb ram if you haven't got VIsta or WinXP 64bit, so you could same some money there.

Get a well cooling case as well.

Check the hosts file usually located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

And see if you got any additional streak after "127.0.0.1 localhost"

If you do, just wipe it, close and save. It should work then.

maybe faster HDD, raptor 150gb (10k rpm)

michelgaetano

raptors cost a lot, if he needs space and cannot use so much money, he'd rather go for a standard 7200 rpm

Yes I have a Q6600 ... lineage actually runs fabulously. I just noticed today as I was 2 boxing on it... you know how when you 2 box, usually the client that is out of focus lags behind and gets really crappy frame rates? On my quad, the second box doesn't even lag one bit... and no frame rate loss.

So, rest assured Lineage works just fine with quad. :)

If you ever plan on Running Two 8800 Ultras in SLI... I would recommend higher Watt PSU. :ef_wink: Just a thought.
