Hey, I just wanted to put the word out on this situation. I served alongside SSG Daniel Beougher for the last fifteen months in Iraq in a small patrol base in Samarra, Iraq. We all got home late October '07, and we JUST left this weekend for our well-earned month of holiday leave.

SSG Daniel Beougher and his wife were vising Fort Myers for their holidays (we haven't even been on leave three days...) driving to visit family when they were hit by a drunk driver, killing Daniel immediately and leaving his wife in critical condition. The drunk driver fled the scene, leaving an injured passenger behind. This driver has yet to be apprehended, although the authorities are following leads and questioning the person left behind.

Please, if you have any information or witnessed this, notify the proper authorities. He was a squad leader in a platoon in my company, and his platoon suffered eight friendly KIA these last fifteen months. He had sustained various shrapnel wounds from an RPG attack as well, awarding him a purple heart. He and his guys have had it rougher than a lot of us over there, even those of us who actually saw combat daily for 15 months. SSG Beougher was a fantastic NCO, and he deserved the vacation he was on his way to take.

All of this, thrown away by some nobody who lacked the maturity and responsibility to vacation and drive safely.

Please, if you have any information or witnessed this, notify the proper authorities.

NORTH FORT MYERS: The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate a fatal accident that happened in North Fort Myers Saturday night. Two vehicles were involved in the crash that completely shut down a stretch of Hancock Bridge Boulevard.

The accident happened when someone driving a Ford F-350 crossed the median and hit a Jeep Cherokee.

According to troopers, 23-year-old Daniel Beougher who driving the Jeep, died on scene. Boeougher had just returned home from Iraq in October and was stationed out of Fort Bragg North Carolina.

Beougher's wife, Lauren Beougher, 23, was in the vehicle with him at the time of the accident. She is listed at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers as a trauma victim in critical condition.

The Beougher's were in Southwest Florida from North Carolina to visit family for the holidays. Daniel Beougher was a Fort Myers High School graduate.

The accident happened just west of Moody Road around 9 p.m. Saturday. Hancock Bridge Parkway was closed between Moody Road and Skyline Drive.

The unidentified driver of the Ford F-350 fled the scene following the accident -leaving a passenger in his vehicle behind.

Troopers say that they do have several suspects being questioned in the case, however, they are telling troopers conflicting stories.

The Florida Highway Patrol asks that anyone who may have witnessed this accident to please come foward and provide troopers with any information that may be available.
